Leila Monahan is a Florida-born artist whose paintings communicate queer personhood informed by historical context and lived experience. They manifest a tug-of-war between past and present in layers of paint, as working in acrylic paint allows for quick layers and packed with information and expression. Confrontational blocky figures and intense colors immerse the viewer in the space of their paintings. They seek to convey experiences and moods that will either evoke understanding or revulsion, no in-between.
